Educating with Digital Storytelling: A Decolonizing Journey for an Indigenous Community

Some brief overview of book

Exploring the relationship between the role of education and indigenous survival, this book is an ethnographic exploration of how digital storytelling can be part of a broader project of decolonization of individuals, their families, and communities. It is a model and exemplar of how a community-based educational project can create and restore intergenerational exchanges and storytelling through modern media, and thereby facilitate healing and decolonization in a marginalized community. Educating with Meaningful Media recounts how a remote Indigenous community was able to collectively imagine, plan and produce 19 unique digital stories representing counter-narratives to the dominant version of Canadian history.

Poitras-Pratt provides frameworks, approaches and strategies for the use of digital media and arts for purposes of cultural memory, community empowerment, and mobilization.
